This report addresses the loss of mobility on major roads caused by poor land use plans and policies. It contains policy guidelines and land use planning strategies to preserve regional mobility. It includes strategies pertinent to density/intensity, mixture of uses, site layout, building orientation, street patterns, and access/connectivity. It includes a description of typical US development patterns and access and mobility issues or opportunities associated with each, and a series of principles and guidelines addressing land development and access. It includes several good case examples of effective practices in action. They include examples of greenfield mixed use developments, transit oriented development, redevelopment of a commercial strip, and infill. Figure X is one example.
