City of Houston, Urban Corridor Planning: Houston, (2009) Available online at http://www.houstontx.gov/planning/_urban/urban_cor.html
This City of Houston initiative is focused on revising the City’s land development regulations and infrastructure standards to enhance mobility options. The emphasis is on creating more transit-supportive built environment and concentrating new development in areas surrounding light rail and “guided rapid transit” stations. An ordinance provides special standards to improve pedestrian access to transit and development on designated “transit corridor streets.” Another ordinance was adopted to amend the building code and allow the City to require sidewalks on existing thoroughfares, transit corridor streets, state highways and freeway frontage roads during the development process.
