OBJECTIVES
- To conduct a thorough literature review to study the existing methods of computing access density
- To apply different computational methods of access density and studying their differences
- To develop a weighted methodology and studying its performance
- To make recommendations regarding the most suited methodology
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
- There are various methods of computing access density in previous studies and a standard methodology could be defined.
- All 3 components should be considered
- Both direction driveways
- Type of intersections (signalized + un-signalized)
- Type of median openings
- Weighted methodology should be preferred to obtain access density which shows improved correlation to crash rate
- Weighted methodology 2 is recommended as it eliminates the drawbacks of weighted methodology 1 and adds flexibility in application to all possible access types.
